Bangkok in Realtime. What goes wrong each year?

Having been in Bangkok for the past 17 years it never seems to amaze me how every year something strange happens to Bangkok. In most occasions, totally innocent, but in other just through total lack of responsibility.

Counting back now starting at the year 2012.

2012: We just had had the “Annual” Press Maker “The Bombs” with Iran right at its doorsteps and warnings being ignored. Ok, lets hope that this occasion is Thailand’s early bird. Lets not judge. The year just started!

2011: Floods. Yep! Thailand had to deal with the worst floods since the last 50 years. Canals that should have been there were simply not to be found. Instead they found golf courses and housing estates where Tax money was being spend on making those canals. Other than that most canals were just blocked by all sorts of items. Thing is though. It was such a slow forward moving flood! Look months to reach the Capital but yet nothing much was done other than Temple Donations.

2010: Red shirts blocking the main streets in Bangkok. Now that was fun when it all started! I was working across the Road where they settled and build there months long “away from north stronghold” In the beginning this was great! We had a new village on the main road connecting/ Blocking Sukhumvit and Rama 4/ Ding Deang etc. The Bonus was that for once I could walk without car pollution from A to B. This changed quickly though when they moved in Sound Systems that could have replaced the earlier smoke signals. Every morning people where queuing up to cash in on the 500 baht cash promise if they participate and boy that worked! I saw the cues daily and it was no secret. We were allowed to go through their temporary new village equipped with Karaoke’s/ Showers/ Power Generators plus anything else you needed! It all ended wit a bang! Today Thailand is still trying to cope with it. But Hey Hey! After all after the Yellows called for an election they DID win!

2008/2009: Yellow Shirts! So whats up with all these colors?

Continued tomorrow.
